FAQ

What is the difference between PARAGLAS™ and COMOGLAS™ ?

PARAGLAS™ is manufactured using the cell-casting method, in which monomer is poured onto two sheets of glass.
COMOGLAS™ is manufactured by extrusion. There is a large difference in molecular weight due to differences in manufacturing methods. (The molecular weight of COMOGLAS™ is about 1/15 that of PARAGLAS™.) There is no significant difference in room temperature properties, but there is some difference at high temperatures (110°C to 170°C).

What is the official name of Acrylic resin sheet (PMMA)?

Acrylic resin sheet (PMMA) is a common name, and its official name is methacrylic resin sheet.

What are the most important characteristics of methacrylic resin?

It is the queen of plastics in terms of transparency and high Weatherability.

Does methacrylic resin burn?

Flammable and will burn. Flammability is comparable to wood. Fire can be extinguished by general fire extinguishing methods.

Does methacrylic resin emit toxic gases when burned?

Complete combustion will not produce toxic gases.

What are the dimensional changes of methacrylic resin sheets?

Expansion and contraction due to temperature change, 0.7 mm to 0.8 mm per 1 m length per 10°C change. Since it also expands and contracts due to moisture absorption and drying, a clearance must be obtained when installing it.

What is the maximum R for forced bending of methacrylic resin sheets?

For outdoor use, the standard is 250 times the sheet thickness; for indoor use, 190 times the sheet thickness.

Can methacrylic resin sheets be bonded?

Adhesion is possible. A beautiful appearance can be achieved by bonding with solvent or polymerized adhesives.

How do I remove dust or clean?

Static electricity makes it easier for dust to attach.
Wipe with a soft cloth moistened with a 1% solution of neutral detergent.

What temperatures can it withstand?

The maximum continuous use temperature is recommended to be 80°C for PARAGLAS™ and 60°C or lower for COMOGLAS™.
It is also highly resistant to cold and can be used at minus 40°C.

How do you calculate the weight of methacrylic resin sheets?

The specific gravity of methacrylic resin sheets is approximately 1.2.
Example: If dimensions are 1830 mm × 915 mm × 3 mm
183 cm (long side) × 91.5 cm (short side) × 1.2 (specific gravity) × 0.3 cm (thickness) = 6.0 kg.

What is the status of compliance with various standards?

For the status of conformity to various standards, please refer to the Standards Compliance section in the Technical Data.
